Podcast Feed Update Timing & Propagation
It’s common for podcast feed updates to appear at different times—or not at all—across various podcast apps. This is due to how RSS publishing works across the broader podcast ecosystem.
Even when a feed updates correctly in Apple Podcasts or the Podcast Index, that does not guarantee the same update will immediately appear in every other app.
Why this happens
RSS feeds do not behave like blog posts where changes update everywhere instantly. Each podcast app controls how and when it refreshes feeds.
Common reasons for delayed or missing updates include:
-
RSS updates can take hours or days to propagate across apps
-
Some apps cache feeds aggressively and may never reflect certain changes
-
Each platform decides if and when it refreshes your feed
-
Listeners who already downloaded episodes may not see later edits
Because of this, show notes and metadata may appear slightly different depending on where a listener is consuming your content.
Best practices for publishing episodes
To avoid inconsistencies across platforms, we recommend:
-
Publish episodes and show notes once, fully finalized
-
Avoid editing or re-uploading content after release whenever possible
-
Allow sufficient time for changes to propagate across podcast apps
These practices help ensure the most consistent listener experience across platforms.
What to do if something looks out of sync
If an episode or program appears incorrect or out of date:
-
Refresh the affected program in the Godcaster Dashboard
-
If you are a hands-on publisher, Godcaster can assign you as the Publisher for your feeds, unlocking feed management tools
-
If your feed is managed through our rss.com partner system, owning the feed allows you to refresh and manage updates directly from your profile
If you need help refreshing a feed or adjusting publisher access, Godcaster Support is happy to assist.
